iPods: Cool or Cooling off?

I was in the mall the other day and I kept on noticing that whenver I passed a couple of people, there would be someone listening to music with an iPod. Now, not to be jealous or anything (because I will be getting one soon) but it seems to me that the iPod fever is starting to become cliché. Everyone has or wants an iPod, which is great business for Apple but they are not even the best MP3 players on the market today. I think the over-commercialization of iPods will soon take its toll on Apple and the fad will cool considerably (like Pokémon, Pods, etc).

I'll STILL be picking up an iPod Photo soon enough though.
