Hurricane Rita

Man this storm is a beast. Hopefully the Govt. can step up this time unlike the debacle that was Katrina.

My prayers are with all the people toughing out this storm.

Firefox 1.0.7 is Out!

Do I need to say more? Get it now.

Lil Kim and her 5 Mics

I listened to the clean version of her new album and I thought it was great. Not 5 mics great but she really put her all into this new LP. Too bad she'll be behind bars for the next year.

Plies: 36 Ounces Vol. 01

Wow. Plies is the newest rapper to sign to Slip N' Slide Records (Trina and Trick Daddy's Label). He spits some serious stuff on his debut mixtape so I would advise you to track it down and listen to it.

Kanye West: Speaker For The Dead

A lot of peeps asked me why I didn't post my comments as soon as Kanye said "George Bush doesn't care about Black People." I am not one to take a statement such as the above mentioned and twist it into my own personal views until it settles and there is time to reflect upon it. Kanye, in my eyes, has every right to say what he said because it's his opinion and nothing more. To do it during a national stage was a bit much for the conservatives out there but someone had to say it. I wonder if Kanye would have never said anything about the situation; would the head of FEMA, Brown, still be in charge? It's funny to see certain websites split down the middle on this. On some predominantly Black websites there is a lot of support for Kanye and his opinion where on predominantly White, conservative websites lambaste Mr. West for what he said. Are they afraid of the truth...because let me tell you the shocking truth; George Bush doesn't care about poor, black people. If Kanye would have added that one word into his statement he would have garnered a bit more support from the majority. Conservatives are acting like typical sheep right now in this time of need. The support after 11/09/2001 (proper way of noting the date BTW) was astonishing to say the least. If Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama received even half of that support there would have horror stories of children getting raped, people dying over water and food, or even helpless women being exploited so that they could be rescued.

It's so sad that right now in the United States of America in the year of 2005 the people affected by Hurricane Katrina did not get help for 6 days. However, I did say after the 2000 elections that we (including my state of Florida) in the south would face the wrath of God for eight years because of the corruption during the elections.

VMAs: Very Mundane Awards Show

Well the VMAs were one a couple hours ago and it was extremely boring. The only thing that was mildly interesting was the Fat Joe comment (to paraphrase: "I feel very safe thanks to all of the securit provided by G-Unit.") Of course Fiddy had to retaliate and he did by calling Fat Joe a fat pussy after his performance. Other than that, the only things worth noting was the Kanye West/Jamie Foxx performance and the M.C. Hammer special performance. The rest of the cookie cutter things were very mundane. I guee even MTV is scuurrred of the big bad FCC.

Herbie Hancock: Possibilities

What an amazing album. As much as I like smooth pop/rock music, this album blew me away. The guests range from John Mayer, Sting, Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone, and Annie Lennox to name a few. Wonderful stuff. 9.2/10

Kurt Cobain

A lot of music artists these days (RE: Proof (of D12), Pastor Troy) are using Cobain as inspiration on their albums and while I think it's cool that Rap artists are doing that; I have mixed emotions about it. Where were some of the same artists when Cobain was alive? The same can be said for The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Big L, Big Pun, etc. Artists need to wake up and realize that they are role models for the youth whether they like it or not. Set a good example for todays youth or we'll be burying more gifted artists in the near future.

My New Hobby (err...Addiction)

I am now addicted to tracking down good gameboy and gameboy advance games at a cheap price ($9.99 or less). I know it sounds trivial but hey...I'm a trivial sort of guy. My latest addition is Pokemon: The TCG

I got it for $3.99 and it is worth every cent. If you got any good deals out there that you've spotted, e-mail me a.s.a.p.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Eternal Duelist Soul

Never cared for the Yugi revolution but I kept on seeing good reviews for this game so I blind bought it. It was only $7.99 so I won't lose much if it turns out to suck.

Palmeiro: 'I have never intentionally used steroids'

Bullshit. Now I have lost what little respect I have for the game of Baseball. I used to be a casual fan of the game but with all of the steroid speculations floating around, I think I'll just stop watching altogether.

Basketball>Baseball hands down.

Mumbai Floods

My prayers and condolences go out to the families that lost someone in the floods last week.

DBZ: Legacy of Goku II

I recently purchased this game not too long ago and man was it worth it. Being a Dragonball Z fan, I was disappointed in the fact that the best DBZ game out was DBZ: Hyperdimension for the great SNES. All the other games out were mediocre at best but the recent Budokai series on the PS2 are shaping up to be decent reincarnations to the DBZ universe.

Anyways, the 2nd incarnation of the GBA game is infinitely better than the first game (DBZ: Legacy of Goku) and greatly improves upon the RPG aspects of the game. The presentation is slick with most of the original music and animation of the series present. The characters move and attack with better fluidity and tighter responsiveness than that of the first game. The story takes place after the Frieza saga until the Cell saga so it's a pretty hefty game (if you know the storyline).

I waited until the game hit the lowest price ($7.99) it could before buying it because now I can enjoy it a little bit more than if I were to purchase it when it first came out. Overall 8.2 out of 10

The Orlando Magic Suck. Period.

If you haven't read the news concerning the Orlando Magic lately, their top draft pick, Fran Vazquez has decided to stay overseas to play instead of signing with the team. I am not shocked whatsoever about this happening because wie all know the the Magic (the management at least) should fold and sell the team to a city and ownership that actually knows a thing or two about basketball. It's a shame that we've wasted yet another pick (Reese Gaines, Johnny Taylor, Etc.) that could have helped out in the short term future. If any Magic fans are reading this: jump ship and find a new favourite team.

The Magic Suck.

Period.

IE7: The Firefox Killer?

I don't think so. IE7 looks like it thrown together by a bunch of second year program writers. Micro$oft really dropped the ball on this one. If they want to challenge FF, Opera, Konqueror, and Safari they'll have to do a much better job than this bullshit Beta release.

Not that I'm hating or anything...

iPods: Cool or Cooling off?

I was in the mall the other day and I kept on noticing that whenver I passed a couple of people, there would be someone listening to music with an iPod. Now, not to be jealous or anything (because I will be getting one soon) but it seems to me that the iPod fever is starting to become cliché. Everyone has or wants an iPod, which is great business for Apple but they are not even the best MP3 players on the market today. I think the over-commercialization of iPods will soon take its toll on Apple and the fad will cool considerably (like Pokémon, Pods, etc).

I'll STILL be picking up an iPod Photo soon enough though.

Political Ideology: Who I Really Am

Many times I have asked myself whether or not I am a liberal or a conservative. On an economic standpoint, I think the richer population should pay more taxes to help support the under-funded areas of our public services. I also think that the Government should protect the interests of the people instead of destroying them. Our crime rate is so high because many people are unemployed and are in a state of poverty. These social outcasts need to be working instead of being looked down upon or thrown in jail. The Government needs to stop building more penitentiaries and hiring more police officers; instead they should help to poor and unemployed to better themselves and in turn we will have a better America.
Abortion and women’s rights have long been a topic of controversy. I think that women have the right to do what they feel is right and should not be regulated like animals. If a woman wants an abortion then so be it. However, when it comes to prayer in public schools, my opinion is that the Government should allow it in schools because if our nation is built on the saying “In God we trust”, then why must our children grow up in a school system where that is not the case?
Human rights come first before the interests of the American people because if we support other nations, they in turn become our allies during times of war. War is something a never want to see, however, so I think that the Government should cut back spending in military expenses and use that same money to further better the lax and under-funded public school systems. So, as to answer whether or not I am a liberal or conservative, the answer is liberal.

Half Blood Prince: In Retrospect

About a year and a half ago, I posted my hypothesis in what was going to happen in the book. For the most part, I was correct. ***SPOILERS AHEAD***

The first thing I noted was that I thought Dumbledore had to die so that Harry could realize his full potential and his mission in life. Sadly, the former came true and it didn't really hit me as hard as Sirius' death did. The identity of the Half Blood Prince did shock me a bit but in the back of my mind, I knew it would be who I thought it would be. The overall theme J.K.R. was going with the book was no surprise either. I knew this book would just be a transition into the final year of Hogwarts. I considered this book and the next one sort of like one final chapter to the HP series. Harry was to find the rest of the Horcruxes and destroy Voldemort but something is irking me whenever I think about that scenario. What if Voldemort accidentally turned Harry into a Horcrux without knowing it? Now that would be an awesome plot twist J.K.R. could unravel during the next book.

The love stories in the book were no surprises to me either. I knew Harry would fall for Ginny even though I know a lot of people want Harry and Hermione to end up together (which I think will happen...read on). I think in book 7 Ron will die because I think it would be the best way for J.K.R. to wrap up the loose ends. Ron HAS to die protecting Harry and Hermione but that would devastate most of the fans. Oh well, if J.K.R. wants to truly end her HP series on a spectacular note, she should let either Ron die saving Harry and/or Hermione or she should kill both Harry and Voldemort. That's my take on it. Check back in a couple of years for my synopsis on book 7 :)

Grand Theft Auto: Good or Bad?

Over the past week or so lawmakers wanted (and have successfully) to change the rating for the ever popular GTA video-game series from a M (Mature-17 years and up) to an AO (Adults Only-18 years and up). I find it very foolish and immature that they would change a game based on modified code that can't be accessed in the normal game. Furthermore, I can't believe they (coroprate, white America) would fret over a little sexual mini-game when GTA as a series is the most violent series on the planet (console -wise).

For shame White America, For Shame..

EDIT: It seems that a lawyer wants to go after The Sims 2 because there is a way to remove the blur effect.

When will the madness end?

R.I.P. Scotty

From CNN:

R.I.P. He will be missed.

I can't find the time to read HP at all this week. I have to run around and do stuff and before you know it, I'm falling asleep on myself.

Oh well, I'll try to get some reading time this weekend so I can go on some message boards and spoil the crap outta them...J/K :)

Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars

I recently picked up this hidden GBA gem a day or so ago and I can't stop playing it. It is not like the Z.O.E. games on the PS2 but rather a real time strategy RPG in the same mold as Shining Forces and Advance Wars. I saw a lot of good reviews from a lot of people and even though I don't really like RTS games I thought, "What the hell..." I was quite hard to track down but I found one and the price was only $6.99

All I can say is WOW. I have got to get all of the RTS games for my GBA.

Maintaining A Good PC

The link above is a PDF file so use whatever pdf reading software you might need.

I usually get a call or an IM once a day for PC problems that are so simple I could smack my friends and family. I broke down and wrote this useful guide that will help all of the average Joe's out there in Internet hell. If you're going to use the file please save it to an extenal space instead of leeching off of my bandwidth because this link could go down at any time.

Time is of the essence

Want to know what I do with my time online? Well, I usually visit gamefaqs' and boxden's boards most of the time. I also check out IGN's boards and I drop by OCRemix to check out if any new V.G. mixes are out. If I'm feeling really bored, however, I read through the articles posted at Fark.com and Slashdot.

That's just a sample of what I do online everyday.

Firefox 1.0.5 is Out

Yup, make sure and upgrade since it has a number of important security patches. Can't wait until the release of 1.1

Young Jeezy...Yeeeeaaaaahhhhh!

Thug Motivation: 101 is out and man, is it bangin'. I am feeling this release, however, Jeezy isn't my favourite from Boyz N Da Hood. That goes to Jody Breeze because he consistently brings the heat. This is a good, solid southern album, though, so don't sleep on it and make sure to pick it up when the retail drops.

Tuff Gong

Bob Marley is the best artist of the past century. No ifs ands or buts about it. His social and political commentary combined with his sublime reggae grooves catapulted his legacy to heights no other artist(s) have seen (and yes I am taking the Beatles, Elvis, and Wacko Jacko into consideration). He truly was Tuff Gong.

Hurricane No More

Well, we didn't experience any rainfall today in central Florida so I guess we were lucky this time. I can't imagine how many more hurricanes we are going to have during the upcoming months but it might get into the teens. Oh well, that's one of the disadvantages of being a Floridian. It's a good thing the advantages out-weigh them.

Harry Potter is around the Corner

So, who's hyped for the new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince? I already pre-ordered mine because I remember how it was the last time around. I had to wait about two weeks before owning Order of The Phoenix. Thank goodness for Amazon.

Hughes to play with LeBron

Larry Hughes will play with LeBron and the rest in Cleveland next season. If I were Bron, I would seriously think about leaving and going to a better team. While I like Hughes, they could have had Ray Allen or Michael Redd instead. I don't think that the Cavs will be elevated to a great playoff basketball team with the addition of Hughes but I may be wrong.

I doubt it, though.

It's That Time of The Year

Hurricanes are coming once again. Sucks to be a Floridian at this time but hey, that's what we get for putting Bush in office. Eight years of misery.

Fantastic Flop

A lot of early reviews are filtering in for the latest superhero movie, The Fantastic Four and most of them are not what Marvel was expecting. That blows because I was pretty hyped up to go and see this but if I don't see any good reviews by Sunday I might wait until it goes to my local dollar movie theatre. For shame Marvel, for shame.

On a side note, Batman Begins is the best Comic book movie of the past twenty years.

I Never Knew Ye

You never hold me anymore. I am constantly being pushed around that I have become hurt and forgotten. You have your other friends over all the time and you play with them yet I never even get looked at anymore. My name means nothing to you anymore because I see you got another friend that has MY name. It's lonely in the dark place in the corner of my heart surrounded by the glow of your light. Then you have the gaul to bring home another friend...of a different colour. I thought you hate black? Why do you hate me so much? I see you out of the corner of my eye caressing her slender body; going up and down on her...it's disgusting. I thought you were only loyal to me..? I guess my months of servitude meant nothing to you...you...whore. The time when I was in your clothes near your body, your smell...it made me go crazy and I used to drip for you. I guess I never knew ye.

Such is the life of a Sharpie Marker.

London Bridge is Standing Tall

What can I say? I lived through 9/11 and while I still had fears, the terrorists could not brake my spirit. Such should be the case in London today. We must not let the terrorists feel like they have gotten a victory and must strengthen our resolution to fight the war on terror. I hope the other European Nations step up to the plate now since this attack (and the Madrid attack) is close to home than was 9/11.

My prayers go out to the families who have lost relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Terror will not overcome the Human Spirit.

Firefox And I

As most of my friends know, I have been using Firefox/Bird since it was first released. I was happy with the original Mozilla suite but I wanted something light, lean, and stable. Opera's awesome browser was my other alternative so I switched to that. Loved it. Then, I wanted more. FF comes out and I wasn't that thrilled. It was small and fast and work wonders on my 533 Mhz box but I couldn't leave Opera behind just yet. Then the extension wizards started to pop up for FF and I was hooked. You could customize the hell out of the thing to suit your needs...something that was lacking in Opera (even though I still use Opera to this day). I'm glad the guys over there @ the Mozilla foundation are working hard for the little guys like me.

Hmm...a whole post without bashing M$..that must be a record or something.

Current FF Stats: Default Theme
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

Extensions:
Adblock v.5 d2 nightly 39 (with custom block list)
Flashblock 1.3.1 (I have flash installed)
Compact Menu 1.7.2
Mouse Gestures 1.0.1
Statusbar Clock 1.7.1
Super DragAndGo 0.2.4
Single Window 1.4

I have used multiple extensions in the past (forecastfox, TBP, TBE, TM, Linky, Linkification, Greasemonkey, bugmenot, etc.) but I have found that this combination is the best for me. I have converted all of my friends and family to FF so I won't be tech support for the next year or so if they stuck to IE.

The Day Hip-Hop Died

First off, I live in the south and I live off of the south's abundance of culture and diversity but the truth has to be said. I know I'll take a lot of heat for this but here goes...

Remember the days when it was cool to tag up the side of a building while trying to dodge the pigs? You don't? Well that's because you've grown up in a generation that have turned it's back on the essence that made hip-hop one of the best cultural movements the world has ever seen. Ever been to a block party where...literally the whole block was on lock? You probably haven't left your comfortable room in the past week far more go outside and rebel against something. I know a few of the cats on this supposed Hip-Hop site know what I'm talking about because I see a few posts here and there filled with insight from a day gone by. Some of us remember what it was like when NWA came out. They opposed everything about middle-white America. They shitted on anything without rhyme or reason. Yet some guys on this site have the tact to compare some previously unknown cats (Boyz N Da Hood) to NWA. Yeah, I'm ranting right now but fuck it. I'm sick of seeing posts where someone who has no knowledge of the real Hip-Hop culture type something so stupid it makes you wonder if they actually lived some of the shit they type.

Remember the days when the Undaground actually meant something and not the label status of your current favourite artist? Remember when DJ's were fucked over? No talent 'MCs' started selling out? Most cats on this site probably became infatuated with the mere thought of rebelliousness when they first saw Eminem. I'm not trying to knock Em or BNDH by the way but they are a fraction of what Hip-Hop is all about. It's easy to say some bullshit behind a computer screen and not think two cents about it but that's the current status of the game nowadays...it's being run by corporate America. Hip-Hop was never about sales or get money or shit like that. It was about the message, the clothes, the opposition. That's been lost today. You see it on T.V. All the time. Rappers who sell out to make some cash. That's what it all boils down to now. Well, if Hip-Hop is to survive, the real heads to address the situation we have instilled into the current generation's brain-cells or else it will fizzle away like the soda-pop I am drinking right now.

Trapped...In the Closet?

The buzz around town is that R. Kelly will release up to 13 chapters for his Trapped in the Closet series. I think this is pushing it personally but the songs are so hilarious that Kellz should go ahead and make as many as he wants.

I wonder how much underage girls were trapped in his closet??

Blues Eyes VS Bed-Stuy

If you haven't heard it by now you should check out Notorious B.I.G. vs Frank Sinatra - Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy. It's a hot CD in the vein as The Grey Album. Biggie sounds great paired with Ol' Blue. Truly a great mash-up.

Sittin' sidewayz, boys in a daze...I bought a pair of S Dots for $20 so I'm feeling happy about myself right now. Check it out.

Caliente

What a humid day. Florida is getting hotter and hotter by the second.

Diversity At its Best

I was reading on Zeropaid that an Indian company called Novatium will offer a computer for about $75. Now that is presumably without the monitor but with monitor it should only be at $100-150 tops. The article mentions that people have a choice to buy used monitors as well. I am really glad that this is happening because we need to get Indians and the rest of the poorer south asian countries ONLINE. Information will flow...

On another note, what's the deal with reggaeton? I mean, do people actually enjoy music that they can't understand (I listen to hindi because I like it so I'm being a total hypocrite right now to prove a point)? I was listening to one of my urban radio channels last week and I heard a Daddy Yankee song entitled Mirame. It sampled an indian song from the movie Yaadein called Eli Re Eli, which shocked the hell out of me because here we have a song on a popular radio channel that plays rap/rnb and we're listening to two genres of music that most people don't understand. Now that's what you call diversity.

Hurricane Madness

Interestingly enough, I found a good pic that I took while we had those four hurricanes last year around my neighbourhood.

Crazy. Anyways, I'm off to save a whale or something...hope everyone was safe today whilst playing with fireworks :P

Rippers Vs. The Feds

Well, it should be as no surprised that the FBI in conjunction with local authorities cracked down on a number of scene members a few days ago. C*P was probably the most noticable in the bunch but a number of rippers were charged.

Instead of the FBI going after real criminals, they waste all of this TAX money (there were like what, 90 searches that lead to 4 arrests or something in that neighbourhood) that could be going to another, more important cause in society. I'm not pointing any fingers or condoning piracy in any form (real scene peeps know that rippers don't do it to spread the files) but they (the rippers) knew that they were doing unlawful acts. It's sad to see the greatest country in the world wasting this much effort on a cause that will not die (Where there is a will, there is a way).

Sceners should keep everything iNT and say fuck to their curriers/affil/pre_sites/etc. for a while and I do agree that p2p appz should be taken away from every Tom, Dick, and Harry. The shit is becoming so popular that once in a while there will be a burst or two. However, the scene knows how to survive so I'm not worried as much as some other forums/sites I see out there saying how the current file sharing trends will change forever because of this bust.

Ummm...not it won't.

Major Update:

Well my hosting for my site died and everything was lost (online). Fortunately, I backed up everything so I will just transition my site over to another server. Peeps will probably knock me for being cheap and not investing in a decent server but hey...I'm a college guy so no can do.

My condolences go out to the family who lost their daughter in Aruba and also to the latest war victims in Iraq. R.I.P

I haven't posted in a while and that because I've been super busy these past few weeks. Tekken 5 is out and is infinitely better than it's former canon, Tekken 4. Devil May Cry 3 and Gran Turismo 4 are also out and are worth picking up as well. Remember, get the game(s) that you really need to play now and wait until the other games go down in price. The games will ALWAYS be there.

Well I'm off to play some more T5.

Plug of the month: The G.I.M.P.

The G.I.M.P. is an excellent image manipulation program in the same mold as Photoshop but it's open-source...so it costs you nothing (compared to the outrageous Photoshop price-tag). A great program if you're looking for a good photo editor without having to shell out big bucks.
